Physiotherapy Iburg has stood for quality since 1993. Quality in treatment, professionalism and communication. This is how we help our clients to quickly and effectively relieve their complaints.
The medical term for a brain haemorrhage or stroke is a 'CVA', which stands for 'cerebrovascular accident'. This literally amounts to 'an accident in the blood vessels of the brain' that damages brain tissue. It happens to about 30,000 Dutch people every year. In most cases this happens due to the blockage of a blood vessel, but it can also be caused by bleeding.
The consequences of a stroke are partly physical in nature: You may have problems walking, difficulty with your balance, an arm that 'doesn't cooperate' or difficulty speaking. On the other hand, the problems can also be psychosocial; your behavior or character may have changed. If you have suffered a stroke, you have probably already undergone rehabilitation in a nursing home or hospital. Once you have recovered well, you can function independently or with some assistance in your own home and living environment.
If you have had a stroke, it is good to get out of bed as soon as possible. Preferably within three days. This will have a positive impact on your recovery and reduces the risk of complications. A physiotherapist at Iburg in Rotterdam will help you get moving again quickly and safely. If you are still unable to get up, you can also do some breathing exercises under supervision.
Continuing physiotherapy at home can help you to further improve activities that are important to you. Intensive practice is essential. After about three months (after the stroke) it becomes clear to what extent recovery has occurred. After this period, skills can still improve provided they are practiced regularly.
Physiotherapy can be provided at home or in practice, depending on your personal situation. Examples of aspects that you work on with a physiotherapist are: your walking ability (with or without aids), your fitness, muscle strength and balance. Naturally, these aspects are based on personal, achievable objectives.
