The foot is a complex body part that consists of 26 bones, 33 joints and many more muscles and ligaments. Because the foot is subjected to daily stress, almost everyone experiences pain in the foot sometimes. As soon as this pain gets worse, it is important to contact your physiotherapist quickly. This way, further damage or complications can be limited.
You may experience multiple pain complaints in the foot. Sometimes the pain is on the side, but more often the pain is on the bottom. You may also experience pain in your instep or arch. Other complaints may include:
Pain in the foot can be caused by, for example, sports, long-term overuse or osteoarthritis. Plantar fasciitis is a common nuisance injury among athletes. The plantar tendon, which connects the heel to the forefoot, causes complaints at the point of attachment. Heel spurs are caused by irritation in the tendon plate. The attachment of this tendon is at the bone. Overload or irritation places increased pressure on this bone. Pain in the foot can also be caused by nerve compression (Morton's neuralgia). When someone gets older, osteoarthritis can also develop. In osteoarthritis, the cartilage turns into a joint. This causes pain and stiffness in the joint, especially when standing up.
Sometimes it helps to wear good sturdy shoes. If this does not help or the pain gets worse, specialist treatment of the foot is an important part of the recovery. At Physiotherapy Iburg we use the best treatment techniques and shockwave therapy.
